House of Nanking
919 Kearny St. (Between Columbus Ave. & Jackson St.)
San Francisco, CA 94133 415-421-1429
There's no question, the food at
the House of Nanking
is excellent but its popularity is also a result of their decision to
offer good food at great prices. There are other Chinese restaurants
in San Francisco offering even better food for a lot more money, And you
don't have to wait in line, but then again, anybody visiting San Francisco
must try the
House of Nanking. Another
interesting treat is their perfectly acceptable house wine sold at about
$14.00 a bottle . A highly recommended restaurant.
Dinner for two is about $35.00 without wine, and $55.00 with Wine.

Hunan
924 Sansome St.
San Francisco, CA 94111 415-956-7727
Hunan is a San Francisco based chain of Chinese restaurants
specializing in
Hunan
cuisine. Their prices are moderate , the service is good and the
food standards are more than satisfactory. Not the greatest Chinese
food in San Francisco , but always a
consistently good choice
for that
Hunan food fix. About $35.00 for two

Jai
Yun
923 Pacific Ave.
San Francisco, CA 94133 415-981-7438
While
we put Jai Yun in the Chinatown restaurant list, it's actually in knob
hill, but close enough to Chinatown to count. They have an interesting
concept , charging either $35.00 for $45.00 each for a fixed price Chinese
food menu . Unfortunately, as this restaurant became popular, portion
sizes have diminished. Also they don't even accept credit cards.
I guess they're cheap. On the plus side, they have a BYOB policy.
This is an over priced restaurant, considering the overall ambience, but
it's an interesting concept.
About $110.00 for two (with tax and tip).
