The vanguard San Francisco International
Film Festival is the longest-running film festival in the
Americas, the
first to reach the ripe old age of 50. The Festival is an extraordinary
showcase of cinematic discovery and innovation in California’s most
beautiful city. Since 1957 SFIFF has hosted hundreds of prominent guests
from Bette Davis to Spike Lee and presented almost 6000 films from just
about 150 countries to nearly two million filmgoers. Groundbreaking from
its inception in 1957, San Francisco International has evolved into the
film festival of the future by continually discovering breakout
filmmakers, new works by acknowledged masters and exciting new local,
national and world cinema to introduce to expectant audiences in the Bay
Area. In 2006 the Festival introduced KinoTek, spotlighting the use of new
technology and cross-platform media. SFIFF50 will be an extraordinary
celebration of new work presented on new platforms to new audiences across
the city.

Legend of the Motorcycle
May 5th, 2007
The Ritz-Carlton Half Moon One
Miramontes Point Road Half Moon Bay
Ticket Info
$50/Advance, $65/Day
The rugged
Pacific coast and manicured lawns of The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay serve
as the site for the second annual Legend of the Motorcycle: International
Concours d’Elegance™, the world’s premier concours d’elegance exclusively
for motorcycles. As the only event of its kind, it encompasses over a
century of design, style and ingenuity and has been established to create
a forum for motorcycles on a level only previously associated with
motorcars.
Over 175 entrants
from five continents have entered over 300 motorcycles into the concours,
each vying for the coveted God of Speed™ bronze trophy awarded for first
place, which some have dubbed the Oscar™ of motorcycling. Other award
categories include the Steve McQueen Award judged by Chad McQueen and a
Hollywood celebrity for the motorcycle that best represents the “king of
cool,” an Elvis Award judged by a musician for the entry that best
represents the King of Rock and Roll, an Industry Award judged by
motorcycle executives, and a People’s Choice Award, among others.
Similar to an
outdoor museum exhibit, the world’s finest motorcycles are displayed and
judged by an international panel of experts. Headed by Chief Judge Ed
Gilbertson, Chief Judge of the Pebble Beach Concours, the star-studded
panel of judges includes Erik Buell, Oriol Bulto, Marty Dickerson, Bud
Ekins, Mert Lawwill, Pierre Terblanche, Craig Vetter and Wayne Rainey.
From legends like those mentioned above, to builders such as Patrick Godet
and George Beale, writers like Simon de Burton and Larry Williams, to
museum curators like Charles Falco and Mark Mederski, judges represent
seven countries around the world.
