San Francisco North Beach
North Beach is considered
the “Little Italy” district of San Francisco although this tiny district
is now becoming home to a growing number of artists and other urban
professionals. Just a few decades ago the North Beach district was home to
most of San Francisco’s many Striptease establishments, but slowly these
clubs closed up or moved elsewhere and other types of businesses,
including cafes and restaurants opened in their place.
In the center of it all you will find Washington Square, which is actually
a park, and a lovely place to enjoy an Italian sandwich or pizza on a
sunny afternoon.
The district is full of
excellent Italian restaurants and also a fabulous French spot, (a casual
boulangerie actually), where you can grab a steaming cup of French roast
and an authentic croque monsier and sit at one of their indoor tables if
you like.
North Beach would be a good
choice for a Value Traveler because lunch here can be had for a
reasonable sum. It’s a good choice for families because most kids like
pizza, Bohemians might find it interesting although not quite as
interesting as the Mission, and because of a couple of the French Cafes
here Luxury travelers would enjoy at least a short visit here because most
often they have a taste for French food.
In short, it’s worth a visit
for anyone, but the district is rather small so you might not want to plan
a whole day here unless you like to sip espressos all day or just lounge
around in the park.
North Beach is located right
next to Chinatown.
